About Us: Our History
The Charles Barker Champions for Kids charity foundation was formed in 1994 with the mission to facilitate fundraising to benefit children in Hampton Roads. Our foundation began hosting several fundraising events throughout the year in support of its mission. Our premier event is an annual golf tournament held each October at the Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This invitation only tournament was renamed in 2002 to the Creech-Malbon Memorial Golf Tournament in remembrance of two young men, Preston Creech and Lane Malbon, who left this world too soon.
The Charles Barker Champions for Kids is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to the belief that the future of our community is dependent on the physical, emotional, and educational well-being of our youth. Our mission is to raise funds in support of community programs, education and scholarships for youth in Hampton Roads.
As has been the tradition, we do not charge administration fees, so all proceeds go towards programs in the areas of counseling for teens, drug and alcohol awareness, educational scholarships, and community mentorship programs. Our goal is to resource and assist the many Hampton Roads organizations dedicated to making a deep and sustaining difference in the lives of our children.
